Prolonged heatwave and temperatures over 40°C: July continues to bring temperatures 10-12°Cabove average in Europe and especially in central-eastern Europe, Italy and the Balkans, after June which marked as the 12th month of global temperature reaching 1.5°C. A high pressure system is dominating for a long period much of Europe and especially southern and eastern with temperatures reaching over 40°C locally and peaks of 43-45°C. The countries that had been influenced the most are Italy, the Balkans, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine.



A lake in Serbia was dried up for the first time: The Rusanda salt lake in northern Serbia, in the northern province of Vojvodina, which contains medicinal mud was dried up for the first time due to the prolonged heatwave with extreme high temperatures.


Wildfires in parts of Europe: The consistent heat wave has brought drought to much of southern and eastern Europe, creating favorable conditions for the wildfires to occur. Already North Macedonia, Albania and Greece had experienced wildfires. On Sunday, North Macedonia declared a state of emergency due to forest fires.
